Named for the historic mulberry tree under which the original colonists met in 1634 and where a unique treaty of friendship with the Yaocomico people was signed as well as building on the groundwork of religious tolerance and speech in early Maryland. Its broad trunk served as the place where public notices and community news was posted. The tree lasted until the mid-19th century> In its place, at Church Point at old St. Mary’s City, now stands the Lord Leonard Calvert Monument. This room is exceptional and located on the ground floor level with great views of St. Jerome’s Creek and the Chesapeake Bay beyond and has easy access to the outdoors.
