The suites and every room afford natural stone, thermostat-controlled fireplaces, ceiling fans, white oak floors and marble/granite baths. The Suites offer Jacuzzi tubs for two with a divine view of the water and sunset – each with built-in Champagne coolers.
Each Room is named and themed after an important local landmark or historically important character. The Inn is tastefully furnished with the owner’s eclectic collection of artwork and antiques gathered over decades and from all over the world.
The Point Lookout Room
This room was named for historic Point Lookout at the confluence of the mighty Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay, 7 miles south of Swanendele – a short drive, an easy bike ride, or a healthy hike through rural Southern Maryland. Point Lookout is now a state park with a large camp site, beaches, good shore fishing, and many other water activities. With the remains of Fort Lincoln and the Virginia shore across the Potomac, Point Lookout played a role in the War of Independence, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. During the Civil War, Point Lookout was used for the largest detention camp for confederate soldiers and sympathizers with an estimated 50,000 passing through its gates. Three monuments commemorate the approximately 3,400 men and women who died while imprisoned on-site. The Point Lookout Room is large with a beautiful view of St. Jerome’s Creek and sunset visible through the trees. It also features a natural stone gas fireplace, ceiling fan, dressing room, and spacious marble/granite bath. The room adjoins a social area, wet bar, and a deck overlooking the gardens and St. Jerome’s Creek; a second deck faces east, surrounded by cherry blossoms in the spring, roses, and other flowers in the summer and fall. The total Room is 386 square feet.
